Ace Hotel Wedding on Film

Lindsay and Brian had their initial legal nuptials in Autumn 2023. You may recall, a sunny city hall morning, with Lindsay’s grandfathers vintage convertible, and portraits afterwards down by the lake. And in the ~2 hours I spent with them capturing their city hall civil ceremony, I knew these two were special. I had hoped I would hear from them again, if or when they decided to do a larger wedding celebration, bringing both their families (from multiple continents) together. When I did, I was overjoyed. Not only because they are the epitome of doing things intuitively their way, but my gosh they always make it look so good when they do. Their chosen style of wedding reception was an intimate gathering at a local downtown Toronto restaurant Lapinou, which made a great backdrop for all their loved ones to be in the same place, perhaps for the first time.

The couple got ready together at Ace Hotel Toronto (one of the most architecturally stunning hotels around) and had a mini reveal to each other as the sun streamed in through their room’s window. Their fur baby, of course, in attendance. A short walk around the corner led us to their venue for a symbolic ceremony, led by Lindsay’s brother, who delivered a charismatic, funny, and heartfelt speech to their guests. Then, the rest of the wedding truly felt like some combination of a indefinite cocktail hour/dinner party, hardly any rules, rigid plans, just everyone enjoying themselves.

Their wedding was one of my last of the 2024 wedding season, and yet it was one of the most creatively and energetically-charged days I had all year. Their ability to be present and completely themselves while trusting the creative vision was an utter joy, and lent itself to be some of my best work of the season. It was an honour to come full circle and capture these two about a year apart, and once again be embraced by warmth and be witness to their love. My favourite kind of day to capture.
