Mike + Erin / Modern Guelph City Hall Wedding
Erin and Mike. I think they both know by now how I obsessed I was with their intimate wedding. In the sense that it was the kind of wedding I could see myself having, and then probably stealing Erin’s dress.
Last year, they let me know they’d be having a small ceremony at Guelph City Hall, and were looking for simple coverage of it, as well as some family photos and romantic portraits. As with many of the Covid-ceremonies of 2020, I presumed it would be fairly relaxed and maybe a little casual. Mainly because I’d already had clients opting for a quick ceremony to make things official, while planning a larger celebration post-pandemic. But then I showed up and started HEAVILY crushing on the dress, the florals, the warm wood of the City Hall chambers (minus the projector slide. Curse you, projector slide) and my creativity was instantly revived.
After their ceremony, I walked the couple around downtown Guelph and took some of my favourite ‘elopement-style’ images I’ve shot. It was an overcast but mild autumn day, without the usual hustle and bustle DT Guelph has during the summer. I mean, the photo of them in front of Church of Our Lady? Get outta here, it’s gorgeous. Afterwards, the Arboretum became our backdrop for family portraits and a few more romantic portraits, because it just doesn’t get more autumnal than the Arb in October. These two were the perfect example of how an intimate ceremony doesn’t need to be compromising. In fact, due to its smaller nature we were able to get even more stunning portraits at a relaxed pace I normally wouldn’t be able to replicate at a venue wedding. So let that be a lesson, Covid-couples. Your union will be beautiful no matter the state of the world. But definitely bring me along to it.
